The Waterloo Warriors faced off against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues this afternoon, looking to rebound from last night’s 3-1 loss. Despite a determined effort, the Warriors fell in another tightly contested four-set match.
The Varsity Blues carried their momentum into today’s game, starting strong with an 8-0 opening run. Their early dominance was reflected in a commanding 25-14 first-set win, fueled by precise hitting and sharp offensive execution.
In the second set, the Warriors found their footing, bolstered by a strengthened defense that created more attacking opportunities. Lucas Redmann (Winnipeg, MB) played a pivotal role with clutch serves and powerful swings, energizing the team. The Warriors rode this momentum to a 25-18 set win, showcasing their resilience and ability to bounce back after a tough start.
The third set began as a back and forth battle, with the teams trading points evenly. However, back to back errors midway through the set allowed the Varsity Blues to establish a lead. Toronto maintained their edge, closing the set 25-21 and putting themselves back in control.
The fourth set was a nail biter, with the Warriors refusing to back down. Early aces from both teams, including one from Warrior Nolan Reed (Grimsby, ON), kept the score tight. The teams were deadlocked at 16-16, each pushing hard to take control. In the end, the Varsity Blues’ consistency proved decisive, as they edged out the Warriors 25-22 to secure the match.
The Warriors will look to regroup as they hit the road to face the Windsor Lancers next weekend.
