Currently, as one of the hottest teams in the OUA, the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball was looking to keep rolling.
Taking on the TMU Bold this weekend for a pair of matches, the teams hit the court Friday to kick things off.
Nipissing dominated early and came up big late for a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23) win over TMU.
Nipissing came out hot, going up 10-4 early on and pushed that lead to a 21-14 late in the opening game.
A 4-2 run capped off the first set, as the Lakers grabbed the win 25-16.
In the second, another impressive start saw the Lakers jump out to an 11-3 lead and dominating early on.
Despite a 9-9 stretch, Nipissing stayed out in front, leading 20-12 as they looked for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Nipissing closed things out in the second game, winning 25-18.
TMU fought back in the third, turning a 6-6 tie into an 18-16 lead.
A 7-5 run gave the Bold the victory, extending the match to a fourth set.
The Bold carried their momentum into the fourth, going ahead 5-1 early.
The Lakers fought back from a number of deficits, cutting the TMU lead to just one, 21-20, as Nipissing turned up the heat.
A frantic finish saw the Lakers come up with a gutsy 25-23 win in the fourth to take the match.
Justice Smith led the Lakers with 11 kills, while Marc Marchand had nine in the victory.
The same teams are back on the court Saturday afternoon to wrap up the weekend.
Match time is set for 4pm at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
