Mustangs fall 3-1 against Gaels

Kingston, ON – The Mustangs faced off against Queen’s for the second day in a row but weren’t able to get the best of the Gaels and fell 3-1.

The first set began very well for the Mustangs with a 4-1 lead making the Gaels call a timeout. Western kept the leverage at 13-7 but ended up calling a timeout because the Gaels were catching up to them. The Mustangs stayed ahead of Queens this set with a 7- point lead at 17-10 which resulted in the Gaels calling another timeout. Western ended the set at 25 –19 getting their first win of the weekend. 

The second set started off quickly with the Gales snapping back from the last set, staying ahead of the Mustangs at 8-4. Western recovered from their brief period of errors and came back to even the score at 9-9. The set continued with tight scoring between the teams with Western trailing right behind Queens at 18-17. At 21-20 Queens called a timeout. Western then called a timeout right after at 23-21 in efforts to get another set. The Gaels took the set at 25-22, evening out the match. 

The third set started off quite even with Western following right behind Queens at 8-7. The Gaels called a timeout at 11-8 due to the Mustangs coming back. At 18-16 Western called a timeout to try and maintain the minimal gap between the scores. Another timeout from the Mustangs at 19-16 to try and trip up the Gaels. Although the Mustangs managed to gather a couple more points, Queens took the set at 25-23. 

The fourth set had a mighty start for the Mustangs with the lead at 6-4. Both teams kept the score even throughout at 13-13. Shortly after the Mustangs called a timeout at 15-13. Western caught up with Queens at 18-18 from a couple of kills, tying the score. The Mustangs asked for another timeout at 23-21. The game ended as Queens took their second win of the weekend, finishing it off at 25-21 with a 3-1 match.

The next game for the Mustangs is in two weeks. They play the Lakehead Thunderwolves for their last games of the regular season. Fans can watch the action starting Friday, Feb 14 at 6:00 pm on OUA.tv.
