Queen’s Men’s Volleyball concluded their weekend double-header against the McMaster Marauders with five set loss on Saturday evening (27-25, 16-25, 25-19, 20-25, 5-15).
Both teams went point for point through the first with neither team leading by more than three points.
Errors from McMaster’s side of the net brought the Gaels into the front and they secured the set with a service ace from Zig Licis (Computer Engineering).
In the second, the Marauders improved their defensive presence and held the Gaels to six kills in with a percentage of -.038. With their offense locked down, Queen’s was unable to secure the set.
Kills from Reed Venning (Arts & Science) and Alex Brdarevic (Engineering) dominated the third, as the Gaels inched their way to 25. Queen’s never trailed and confidently took the third set.
It was the Marauders who never trailed in the next two and went onto take the fourth and the fifth.
In the loss, Licis and Venning each put up 15 points for the Gaels. Licis added 13 kills, one service ace, and one solo block. Venning secured 14 kills and one service ace.
The Gaels return to action on Feb. 14, at 6pm in Peterborough as they take on the Trent Excalibur. Fans can catch the action on oua.tv.
