U SPORTS Top 10: Women’s volleyball reaches highest ranking of the season, women’s swimming holds No. 10 spot for second straight week

The Brock Badgers have two teams in the Top 10 as the postseason approaches. 

This week’s rankings combine both the team sports and individual sports rankings in one announcement made by U SPORTS on Tuesday, Feb. 18. 

Women’s Volleyball (16-4) – No. 7

The Badgers women’s volleyball team ends their regular season and the final national rankings at No. 7; their highest spot of the year. 

Over the weekend, the Badgers spilt a doubleheader with the visiting Nipissing Lakers. The first night on Friday, Feb. 14, saw the Badgers drop a close five-set affair (25-13, 25-22, 18-25, 26-28, 13-15). Brock held a significant advantage from the service line, notching 14 aces compared to just six from Nipissing. Three Badgers finished with 13 kills each in Laurin Ainsworth, Emma Baruchelli and Sadie Dick, with Ainsworth and Baruchelli tying each other with a team-high 16.5 points.  

The next night on Saturday, Feb. 15, the Badgers completed a commanding sweep 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-22) over the Lakers. As a team, Brock hit at a .255 clip while the visitors only managed a .086. Dick led all scorers with 17.5 points off 16 kills and 1.5 blocks while Ainsworth and Madison Chimienti both finished in double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectively. 

Up next, the Badgers have their eyes set on the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs as they host this same Lakers team for a quarterfinal matchup on Friday, Feb. 21. First serve at Bob Davis Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.

After an idle week, the Badgers continue to hold the No. 10 spot in the national rankings. 

The Badgers are coming off a sixth-place result at the 2025 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships where they earned seven total medals to set a new program record in the modern era. 

Up next, the members of Brock women’s swim team who have qualified for the U SPORTS Championships will head to Toronto and the Athletic Centre Varsity Pool for the three-day competition that starts on Thursday, March 6 and ends on Saturday, March 8.
