(FREDERICTON, NB) UNB’s split squad combined for a 3-and-1 record on day one of their inaugural Philson Classic pre-season women’s volleyball tournament.
The REDS’ Red side won both of their Friday matches, beating the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings 3-0 (30-28, 25-16, 25-15) and Trent 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13).
UNB’s Black team split their Friday matches, beating the St. Thomas Tommies in straight sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-17) before falling in straight sets to the Dalhousie Tigers (14-25, 11-25, 20-25).
UNB’s Red side and the Tigers are 2-and-0 after day one of the tournament. The REDS’ Black side is 1-and-1, along with Alberta-Augustana and Acadia. Trent is winless at 0-and-2.
Action resumes Saturday with games at 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm, and 6:00pm, in both the Richard J. Currie Center and the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.
The tournament’s bronze and gold medal games go Sunday at 12:00pm and 2:00pm respectively. Both of those games will be played in the Performance Gym of the Currie Center.
