Tigers fall to Moncton, 3-0

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Moncton Aigles Bleues swept Dalhousie in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18, at Dalplex on Saturday afternoon. Dalhousie recorded 31 kills and 55 digs in the match.

The match opened with Moncton taking an early lead, thanks to a kill by Tori Casey. Dalhousie responded quickly, with Mel Hatfield and Brooke Graham each securing kills to put them ahead 3-1. The teams then exchanged points, maintaining a close contest up to an 11-11 tie. However, Moncton gained momentum through a series of Dalhousie errors and strong play from Mia Jolicoeur and Anne Paquette, securing a 16-13 advantage. The Aigles Bleues capitalized on this lead, extending it to 22-14, prompting a Dalhousie timeout. Despite efforts from Hatfield, Moncton held their ground and Paquette clinched the set with a final kill, concluding the set at 25-17.

Moncton edged out Dalhousie in the second set with a 25-21 victory. Casey was instrumental for the Aigles Bleues, contributing multiple kills, including two consecutive ones that pushed their lead to 15-14. Dalhousie kept the set competitive, with Ella Hornby and Hatfield each delivering key kills to keep the score close. Despite Dalhousie’s efforts, Moncton capitalized on a service error to secure the final point of the set.

Moncton secured a 25-18 victory in the third set against Dalhousie, with a significant turning point occurring after a timeout with the score tied at 13. Jolicoeur and Casey each contributed crucial kills during a 7-0 Moncton run, putting them ahead 20-13. Dalhousie attempted to regain momentum with kills by Hatfield and Hornby, but the Aigles Bleues maintained their lead. The set concluded with Kyana Sivret’s decisive kill, assisted by Mia Ladd, who played a key role with multiple assists throughout the set.

Hatfield led the Dalhousie team with 10 kills and added 11 digs, contributing significantly on both offense and defense. Madelyn MacLaughlin facilitated play with 24 assists while also contributing six digs. Hornby posted nine kills and 15 digs, demonstrating versatility across the court. Dominika Aniolowska recorded three kills and added two block assists, providing a solid presence at the net.

The Tigers return to the court on Friday when they hsot the SMU Hukies at 7pm.
