(ST. JOHN’S, NL) The UNB REDS clinched first place in the Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball standings with a straight-sets victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, Friday night in St. John’s.
The REDS won with scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-13.
It’s the first time since 2007-08 that UNB will finish atop the league standings.
Talia Nixon led the REDS with seven kills, 18 assists, and four blocks.
Heather Benko served five aces.
Sonya Nielson had seven kills as well while Lydia Green, Isla Olesen, and Danielle Krzywonos contributed four blocks each. UNB had 19 total blocks in the match.
Jenna Adams registered seven digs, and Lauren Roworth added half a dozen.
Memorial’s Courtney Hodder led the home team. She struck nine kills and added seven digs.
Karen Greek put up a match-high 24 assists.
The Sea-Hawks mustered just four blocks in total.
With the win, the REDS are now 15-and-0. The second place Sea-Hawks are now 8-and-7.
The REDS and Sea-Hawks meet again Saturday to conclude their weekend series. First service is scheduled for 12:30pm AST.
