Huskies bounce back with four set win over Aigles Bleues

HALIFAX, NS – The Saint Mary’s Huskies defeated the Moncton Aigles Bleues in four sets (25-15, 26-24, 17-25, 25-23) in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action on Saturday night at the Homburg Centre.

Huskies star left side Emilia Mikanovich was named Player of the Match, scoring a match-high 16.0 points on 15 kills, 15 digs and one block. Esther Wildeboer chipped in 12.0 points (11 kills, 19 digs and one block), Brea De Souza added 11.5 points (11 kills, six digs, two assists, 0.5 blocks), and the setting duo of Taylor Lougheed (30 assists) and Grace Blaskovits (14 assists) combined to dish out 44 assists.

The Aigles Bleues were led in defeat by Anne Paquette’s 14.0 points (14 kills and 16 digs), while Tori Casy added 11.0 points (nine kills, 16 digs, 2.0 blocks and two assists), and Mia Ladd dished out a match-high 38 assists.

The Huskies win improves their record to 8-7 on the season. Saint Mary’s will take to the road next weekend, visiting the league-leading UNB REDS (16-0) on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. in Fredericton, N.B.

The Aigles Bleues loss drops their record to 2-13 on the season. Moncton will continue their Nova Scotia road swing next weekend, visiting the Acadia Axewomen (5-10) on Friday and Dalhousie Tigers (7-8) on Saturday, both at 7 p.m.
