York University Athletics & Recreation is happy to announce major changes to the Tait McKenzie Centre Tennis Courts.
In partnership with Tennis Canada, the Tait Tennis Courts are being restored ahead of the upcoming National Bank Open Presented by Rogers, being held at Sobey’s Stadium from July 26-August 7.
This high-performance upgrade will transform the existing courts into professional-level playing surfaces, bringing York one step closer to becoming a premier destination for competitive and recreational sport in Canada.
Due to the renovations, courts will be closed to the public beginning July 4 and will be used exclusively by Tennis Canada and participants of the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers during the tournament period.
Renovations will see the construction of four brand new tennis courts, eight pickleball courts, and a showcase pickleball court. Additionally, new programs and memberships for York students and rental opportunities for external users will be launching soon.
“This is more than just a restoration,” said York Executive Director, Athletics & Recreation Steven Chuang. “It’s re-imagining how we serve our sport and recreation community, and we’re proud to be partnering with Tennis Canada to make it happen.”
Courts are expected to re-open to the public in mid-August, with an exact date still to be determined which will be communicated as soon as possible.
