Huskies defeat Sea-Hawks in four sets to split weekend series

HALIFAX, NS – The Saint Mary’s Huskies snapped a two game losing streak with a four set win (25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19) over the Memorial Sea-Hawks in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Homburg Centre.

First year Huskies libero Tevary Robson was named Player of the Match with 18 digs and two assists. Emilia Mikanovich led the scoring with a match-high 20.0 points (16 kills, three aces, two assists, one block and 14 digs) while Esther Wildeboer scored 19.5 points (16 kills, three aces, two assists, 0.5 blocks and 10 digs) and Taylor Lougheed dished out 30 aces.

The Sea-Hawks were led in defeat by Lydia Grawer’s 15.0 points (11 kills, two aces, 10 digs, 2.0 blocks), while Courtney Hodder added 14.0 points (11 kills, two aces, one block, seven digs) and Karen Greek dished out a match-high 31 assists and added 10 digs.

The Huskies win snaps a two-game losing streak and improves their record to 7-6 on the season. Saint Mary’s will be back in action next weekend, taking on the Dalhousie Tigers (5-8) on Friday night at the Dalplex, before hosting the Moncton Aigles Bleues (2-11) on Saturday night at the Homburg Centre. The Sea-Hawks loss drops their record to 8-6 on the season. Memorial will be back on home soil next weekend, hosting the UNB REDS (13-0) for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday in St. John’s, NL.
