Men’s track & field athlete Ciaran MacDonald and women’s volleyball left side Emilia Mikanovich have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman’s Little New York Halifax, for the week ending February 22, 2026.
Ciaran MacDonald / Men’s Track & Field / Margaree Valley, N.S. / 2nd year / Arts – Political Science
Ciaran MacDonald, a second year jumper from Margaree Valley, N.S., is the Huskies male athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman’s Little New York Halifax, for the week of Feb. 16-22, 2026.
MacDonald won two medals at the AUS Track & Field Championships this weekend in Moncton, N.B., setting new personal bests in both events and qualifying for U SPORTS Nationals.
MacDonald won the gold medal in Men’s Triple Jump for the second straight year, with a personal best jump of 13.36m. This qualifies MacDonald for his second U SPORTS Championships as he heads to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg to represent the maroon and white.
MacDonald also won the bronze medal in the Men’s Long Jump, with a personal best jump of 6.30m.
Emilia Mikanovich / Women’s Volleyball / Minsk, Belarus / 4th year / Science – Biology
Emilia Mikanovich, a fourth year left side hitter from Minsk, Belarus, is the Huskies female athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman’s Little New York Halifax, for the week of Feb. 16-22, 2026.
Mikanovich led the Huskies to an AUS semifinal sweep over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, punching the team’s ticket to their third straight AUS Champioship Finals.
Over a pair of wins, Mikanovich recorded 46.0 points, 42 kills, 23 digs, five assists, three aces and one block.
In Friday’s five set win, Mikanovich was named Player of the Match, recording 21.0 points on 19 kills, 12 digs, two aces and one assist.
In Saturday’s four set win, Mikanovich again led all players with 25.0 points on 23 kills, 11 digs, four assists, one ace and one block.
Mikanovich was recently named AUS MVP for the second straight season, leading the AUS in points (355.0), points per set (4.7), kills (309) and kills per set (3.39), and ranking among the conference leaders in digs (246 – third), digs per set (3.24 – fifth) and service aces (25 – fifth).
The Huskies will now take on the top-seed UNB REDS in the AUS Championship, with schedule TBD.
