U OF T MAKES IT TWO WINS IN A ROW OVER RMC

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team knocked off the visiting RMC Paladins in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 31) inside the Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

Set scores in the match were 25-23, 25-20, 25-17.

Despite a few run of points for the visitors, the Blues were dominant throughout the quick three set home contest. Toronto’s offence spread the ball around with four players registering five or more points, while defensively four Blues tallied seven or more digs.

Pacing the U of T offence was first-year setter Stone Riley. Appearing in all three sets, Riley registered a game-high 42 assists while adding one kill and two digs. The beneficiaries of the strong setting performance were outside hitters Marcus Barrett and Iannis Toma. A first-year kinesiology major, Barrett finished with a game-high 17 points recording 15 kills and two solo blocks. Meanwhile, the Varsity Blues veteran Toma delivered a game-high 16 kills on big swing after big swing. Toma also led the Blues with 13 digs while second-year libero Jeffrey Kladko also hit double-digits with 10.

The Paladins were led by and 11 point match from Carter Liu. Liu tallied eight kills, one service ace, and two solo blocks in the loss. Libero Yanick Roy was also a standout with a game-high 16 digs.

The Blues will look to keep the streak rolling on home court as they next welcome the Guelph Gryphons to Goldring Centre for a pair of contests on November 6 and November 7. Tickets for Varsity Blues home matches are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. U of T students receive free entry with a valid T-Card. All home volleyball matches for the Blues are also streamed live on oua.tv.
