FRIDAY GAME FLOW
The Warriors had trouble keeping up with the Lancers early on in the first set of the weekend. Windsor jumped out to an early lead before Waterloo would find a way to respond and match the intensity of the hosts.
As the first set went on Waterloo stayed within reach of the Lancers but in the end the blue and gold were able to trump the black and gold 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead.
The battle continued on in the second set with Waterloo ramping up their play to try and find a way to test the Lancers. A back and forth set ensued that eventually resulted in extra points being necessary at a 24-24 tie that the Warriors were able to earn two more on the Lancers to tie up the match with a resilient 26-24 second set win.
Waterloo would grab an early lead in the third set before Windsor would come alive late in the set to overcome the brief setback to earn the third set 25-19 with consistent and persistent play.
Despite the fourth set’s first point going in favour of the Warriors, the experienced Lancers would find a way to cruise past Waterloo building up a comfortable lead that became too much for the visitors as the hosts went on to take a convincing 25-11 fourth set victory and earn a 3-1 match win in Windsor.
SATURDAY GAME FLOW
An evenly matched first set was played throughout the first set of the weekend rematch which allowed both sides to stay competitively in the contest throughout.
Windsor would eventually emerge with a 25-23 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was also very equal with both sides trading points and swapping leads throughout before Windsor found a way to take the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 advantage.
On the verge of a sweep, the Warriors did their best early on in the third set to try and stave off dropping a third consecutive set to the Lancers before the blue and gold locked in and got the job done by being able to gain distance on the scoreboard and earning an eleven point third set victory to complete the sweep 25-14 and a 3-0 match win result.
UP NEXT
The Lancers will now prepare to hit the road next weekend and head up the 401 to London to take on the Western Mustangs on Friday February 7th at 7PM and again on February 8th at 1PM vs the Mustangs again for their final two regular season games before the playoffs begin. Both games will be streamed on OUA.Tv for volleyball fans to watch live from Western’s Alumni Hall gymnasium.
