North Bay, ON – Nipissing Lakers Men’s Volleyball is gearing up for their OUA playoff semifinal match against the Queen’s Gaels in Kingston, Ontario on Friday, February 27th at 7PM.
The Lakers advanced to the semis coming off a historic quarterfinal 3-0 win over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, February 20th in Toronto; Nipissing’s first OUA playoff win in program history.
Queen’s advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 quarterfinal win over the York Lions on Friday, February 20th in Kingston.
“We have been preparing for the playoffs with the mindset of one touch at a time” Nipissing Head Coach Eric Yung said about the semifinal match. “Being the heavy underdogs, we have nothing to lose. We are going into the semis with house money; the risks don’t feel like risks. Our guys will continue to be brave and enjoy the moment. Anything can happen in a one match format.”
Heading into the match, Nipissing holds a 12-9 record and the 7th seed in the OUA playoffs. Queen’s maintains a 15-6 record and the 3rd seed.
This match will be the third meeting of the year for the Lakers and Gaels, with each side taking one win. Nipissing bested Queen’s in five sets on November 14, 2025, a comeback win after trailing by two sets in the match. Queen’s got revenge on November 15, 2025, beating Nipissing; again, a five-set match.
“The result of these next two matches will not define who we are as a program” Head Coach Yung said. “I hope the guys continue to enjoy their time together on court as we continue to fight our way toward a championship.”
Lakers fans can watch the match live on OUA.tv at 7PM on Friday, Feb. 27th. You don’t want to miss this.
